About Me

Trip to Arizona with hike to top of mountain

Personal Passion

In my personal life, I just got married this summer to my wife Michelle and we live together with our 3 year old golden goof ball Lucy. Recent excemetment is my brother and his wife had their first baby today (Oct 30) making me and uncle. Exciting times.

In my free time, I enjoy camping, hiking, hunting, snowboarding, traveling, messing with random tech, and photograhy.

Learning by doing is one of my favorite things. I often find myself with too many things going on as one thing after another grabs my attention. Many times I find excuses for to create a project as an excuse to learn something new.

Personal Narrative

One of the biggest challenges I’ve faced was renovating the house my wife and I now live in. I bought it long before we met, back when I was living in an apartment, and rented it out for about three years until the start of COVID. At that point, I didn’t have much going on, so I decided to renovate it myself.

What started as a “quick paint and clean” quickly turned into much more. Before I knew it, my brother and I were reshingling the roof. And since we were up there, we figured we might as well remove the chimney. Removing the chimney damaged some drywall, so that needed fixing too. Then we discovered some studs were rotted, the electrical wiring was unsafe, and some pipes had lead fittings. It quickly became a much bigger project than I ever expected.

This turned into my largest “learning project” to date. By the end, I had essentially rebuilt most of the house. While it may have been faster to replace it entirely, I learned an incredible amount about electrical work, plumbing, drywall, framing, flooring, cement work, and more. Now that the renovation is complete and we’re living in the house, I can honestly say I wouldn’t have done it any other way.
